What has happened to our summer? Incessant rain is not exactly conducive to great classic car meets but I’m afraid that is just what we got for our June area meeting. Rain from dawn until dusk and beyond – in fact as I sit writing this report a day later it is still raining and flood warnings abound! On a more positive note, and despite a number of apologies received in advance – including Doug who is heavily involved in the upcoming Baston Car show and who had to be at a critical organisers meet – I was rather pleasantly surprised at a decent turnout for our monthly meet at the Five Horseshoes, Barholm. There may not have been a vast number of Triumphs in the car park, but fourteen hardy souls braved the elements to come along and talk about the sunnier times that are surely just around the corner!  With that optimistic thought in mind we spent a considerable amount of time discussing forthcoming events. First and foremost, Steve took details of the confirmed participants for the Baston Car Show on Sunday July 7th. He also handed out the registration sheets that must be displayed in your windscreen on arrival in order to allow the stewards to direct cars to their correct location on arrival. It looks as if we will be 10 cars plus Gary, who will have his Mini parked up separately with the ‘Mini 60’ display. The show is the day before our next meeting so a report should appear in the August courier.  Over the weekend of 26,27,28th July Silverstone Classic will be taking place at the famous race circuit. Again, we have quite a strong ‘Peterborough Area’ contingent planning to attend. Any late bookers should be aware that early-bird booking discounts are now no longer available and club display stands for the Saturday are all sold out. Full details are on the Silverstone Classic website.  Moving forward to August and Doug has arranged a day trip for our area group. On Sunday 11th August we will be visiting the Bubble Car Museum at Langrick near Boston, Lincs. For any that have not been, this is a fascinating place to see the many and various small cars that had their heyday from the mid-1950s to mid-1960s. We will also be lunching at the museum before paying an afternoon visit to Laddies Ice Cream in Holbeach. The planned visit to Heckington Mill has been confirmed but it won’t be until August 7th 2020 – that’s next year for all you forward planners! Please let me or Doug know if you will be joining us for the Bubble Car Museum trip asap.  The weekend of 16, 17, 18th August will be the Inter-Club Triumph Weekend at Stratford-upon-Avon Racecourse. If you would like to attend it is essential that you pre-book via the TSSC website as this is the only way to guarantee the club gets a financial ‘kick-back’ from tickets sold.  At the end of August on Sunday 25th, there is also the Stamford Classic Car show and some of our group are booked in for this. It has a limited capacity and always gets booked up early. This year is no exception as it is already full, and no further bookings are being accepted.  If these weekend events aren’t for you, then there are a couple of local mid-week classic car events that are worth consideration. During the summer months there is a gathering at the Five Horseshoes, Barholm (our meeting venue) on the 2nd Wednesday of every month (until September). All types of classics are very welcome, and cars start to arrive from around 4pm. On the 3rd Thursday of every month there is a similar gathering in Greetham. These take place at Greetham Community Centre from around 5pm. This is an extremely popular meet and if the forecast is good then up to 1000 vehicles have attended – so be warned and get there early!  Hopefully there should be something here to take your fancy. The main thing is to get your Triumph out and enjoy it! Next month I am sure (he says with fingers crossed) the weather will be wonderful, and we will be able to hold our meeting outside until it gets dark. The date will be Monday July 8th, the venue as always is The Five Horseshoes Barholm, near Stamford and we start around 8pm. Come along and join us for some relaxed Triumph banter, a noggin or two and some nosh. It is great fun and newcomers are always very welcome. Hopefully we’ll see a few Triumphs basking in the evening sunshine. Doug and I look forward to seeing you there.  Cheers Paul
