We have welcomed several new members in the last few months, and two of the newest, Steve and Dave both from Plymouth, came along to the Star for our January Club Night. We were missing a few regulars, but we had a very good evening chatting and mostly eating – the Star had a two for one offer on! Bob has taken his engine and gearbox out of his Vitesse and hopefully will resolve the problems he has been having. Next, on 1 February, was a scenic 25 mile drive from the House of Marbles at Bovey Tracey to one of our favourite venues, the Sportsmans Arms on the way to Dartmouth. Of the 15 booked in, three brought Triumphs. Steve Woollett joined us en route in the 2000 but otherwise it was a Herald day, which is quite unusual now. Whilst Peter Barker & Christa Percival were tackling the Monte Carlo Historique in the 1960 Herald Coupe [Pic 1], Dan’s 1960 Coupe did the drive, together with my 13/60 Herald [pics 2 and 3]. So good to have a dryish day in between the storms, but we did have to do a bit of slaloming between newly opened up potholes on our appalling Devon roads.
February Club Night at the Star Inn, Liverton was so wet that not a single Triumph ventured out. However a good number of members came along. The evening was enlivened by Peter Barker and Christa Percival giving us a quick insight into their second drive in this year’s 100th Monte Carlo Historique Rally. [Pics 1 and 2] Admittedly they had not previously been to the Star, but alas their navigation from Plymouth to the Pub was let’s say, not quite as good as on the Rally! Driving from Plymouth to John o’Groats would have been enough for many of us, but that was only to the start point. From there they drove down to Monte Carlo where they had a short break, before tackling the journey back to Plymouth. In all over 3000 miles covered in their 1960 Herald Coupe. Christa’s photos, including her own sketches, and Peter’s insights, gave us a real feel for the event.
