Hi, I'm Tom, the Area Organiser for Cambridge Area and a member of the Council of Management
I work from home running some website servers and can therefore juggle my time to give me what the guys in the area describe as 'too much time on your hands' to spend some of it helping the Cambridge Area tick along nicely. I also assist the CoM on their web presence strategy.
My first car was a Triumph Herald 1200 convertible, which I bought with my first earnings and the birthday money from my 19th birthday. And I still have it!
My first vision of a Triumph was six months before, round at my cousins where his TR6 and his friend's Triumph Herald convertible sat in the sunshine looking glorious. My cousin's TR6 felt unattainable, but the other beauty looked like something I could aim for. I scoured the classifieds (this was before the internet, let alone eBay) and found one, in Signal Red for £325. I cheekily negotiated four 'remoulds' into the deal which didn't last long. My first TSSC meeting was in 1984, when Cambridge used to meet at what was then the Coach and Horses (now the Wok and Grill) in Trumpington. I remember Barry Newitts' annual barbecue at Shelford Rugby Club's ground with particular rose tinted fondness.
Since then I've upgraded the running gear on my Herald to a Vitesse Mk II, as the 1200 chassis finally died beyond repair, seen her through three resprays, all in Signal Red, and replaced pretty much all of her at one time or another. She is rather a Trigger's Broom but I love her to bits. I've taken her to the Italian Alps, Land's End and John O'Groats, raced around Goodwood and the Le Mans circuit and even driven her on the roof of the mighty Linghotto Fiat factory! She's four months older than my wife and I've had her four months longer than I've known the wife, so they both understand where they fit in the love triangle.
The Cambridge Area has a Facebook group for general chat and minor news:

I hope to see you at The Plough in Fen Ditton sometime for a natter about all things Triumph over a pint of shandy or orange juice and lemonade!
