Colin Lindsay - Early Herald Register Secretary

Colin Lindsay from Scarva, Northern Ireland and current Early Herald Register Secretary.
I started with my first Spitfire in 1993 after a variety of Euroboxes and found that just because a vendor says it's fully restored doesn't mean it actually is fully restored. Back then my toolbox was two spanners and a hammer. The Spitfire was a real botch cover-up job, so rather than admit defeat I rebuilt the car almost completely, learning as I went, although I have never yet learned to weld and to this day prefer to have it done by family members who are professional welders and engineers by trade. Of course once the Spitfire hit the road, I then acquired a variety of dumped and otherwise unloved Heralds, one of which was actually saveable although the restoration of this Estate has stalled since 2003 and has just been recommenced over lockdown. I had a number of GT6 but my Mk1 stayed with me since 2000 and was completely rebuilt in 2004 / 2005, gained a number of trophies and awards, and was sold in favour of yet another Herald in August 2021. I currently own four Heralds and work on a variety of local cars as their owners come to me for parts or assistance. Currently I am rebuilding a 1964 1200 convertible, a 1967 1200 Estate, and a 13/60 Vitesse-bonnet convertible which was so unroadworthy it was prohibited from the public road in 2019.
I became GT6 Register Secretary in 2001 and Herald Register Secretary around 2012 when I realised I was working more on Heralds than GT6. I love writing articles for The Courier, especially entertainment articles and hands-on how-to's which hopefully appeal to Herald owners who simply drive their cars, those who want to read interesting things about Heralds, and the amateur mechanics like myself who have a basic general knowledge, rather than seriously professional in-depth mechanical or engineering features which I'll leave to those who really know how to do it.
