Avon July News

Hi Everybody. As we have been blessed with such good weather over the last month, a number of events have been attended.
A number of us attended the Castle Combe Steam fare, I have to say, that although this event is right on my doorstep I have not attended it for about 15 years and was very surprised to see how it had expanded. Really, you needed to attend for the two days to take it all in.
Sadly for those who attended the Berkeley Show which took place a couple of weeks later, were in for a serious soaking. You have to feel sorry for the organisers and the participants of these events as so much effort goes into the organisation and then to get washed out, not a very good day.
I recently had a phone call from Fowlers of Bristol (Triumph Motor Cycle) specialists, asking if the club could supply some cars for their annual bike festival at their showrooms in Bristol. Although there is no direct tie up between Triumph cars and Motor Cycles they felt it would be an added attraction for the visitors. We took five cars, and had a good day.
While we were waiting in a lay bye on a dual carriage way, where we had arranged to meet up prior to going to Fowlers, a guy and his wife pulled up behind us and explained that as he drove past us he noticed what he thought was his old TR7 which was one of the cars going to Fowlers. He was lucky to catch us, as we were just about to drive off and he had to drive about two miles in order to get to where we were parked and sure enough it was his and is now owned by Dave (Call me Smokey) Dyer, he was pleased to see his old car again. You may ask why Smokey, well, if you followed him when he is driving his Mk2 Vitesse you would know. It will get fixed one day, WE HOPE.
Events for July are:-
6th July. Thornbury Carnival at the Mundy Playing Fields.
6-7th July. Heddington & Stockley Steam rally.
13-14th July. Powderham Classic Car show. Powderham Castle, Devon.
14th July. 750 Motor Club, Newark Park, Glos.
26-28th Boconnoc Steam Rally, Cornwall.
We are still trying to arrange a skittles evening at Redhill on a Friday evening.
There should be something here for everyone. Safe Driving
Dave
