Newbury July News

Hi Folks, May has been another busy month for shows with Josie and I on the Isle of Wight where huge thanks are due to Tracy and Elaine who worked tirelessly to entertain us all. We drove the TR7 over and it performed well. We did not camp but stayed at Warners, Norton Grange. After settling in we drove across the Island to Appledurcombe where we signed in and collected our goody bags. On Saturday morning we set off to meet the convoy at the Pearl centre where I counted 62 Triumphs. See photo of us lined up on the grass in front of the Pearl centre by the sea. Inside was a warm welcome with bubbles and cake for the 30th anniversary of the I.O.W. Triumph weekend. We drove in convoy to the Needles where parking was free and allocated for us, there was a lot of interest in our cars from the visitors. On Sunday we arranged to meet them on Shanklin seafront (see photo), where we enjoyed sitting in the sun beside the sea. We waited to hear the drone of the Triumph engines. It was quite a spectacle as we joined the convoy along the front around the roundabout to toot and wave at the others as they came along. We drove to Sandown, Isle of Wight airport where live music and a BBQ were laid on for us.
Popham show was well attended where I understand Suzie and Guy had a stand set up for the Andover group. Ian attended, I guess in his TR6, Roy in TR3 and Andy in Bond. Ian said there were two gliders there from Lasham airport which we visited on a mystery tour. There was also and interloper MG on the TSSC stand.
Roy and maybe Helena also attended the Lambourn show which is a country show and has a good mix of Classic cars, tractors, livestock and bric a brac stalls.
The 8th May at the Butt Inn, Aldermaston was a quiet meeting with Ian in Seat, Steve in LR Defender, Malcolm and Josie in Zafira. The Butt Inn is a lovely old pub situated near the canal. It has a good menu and is well worth a visit for a meal and a walk along the canal.
Steve was a good Samaritan on the way home to assist with a broken down Herald near Theale. Steve said it was leaking fuel from the carburettors and a spring had sprung away in the undergrowth. The Herald got underway again so we hope it made it home. Steve’s Vitesse failed the Mot test on a few trivials, headlights to low, horn, brake cylinder and advisory play on trunnion. Steve also had a altercation at the Reading tip for scraping under the barrier with his Land Rover but he did manage to dump his rubbish.
The meeting on 22nd May at the Downgate, Hungerford common was a lively affair with Malcolm and Josie in TR7, Guy and Suzie in Bond 2+2, Ian in TR7, Nigel in RCZ, Andy in MGZS, Robert Peters in Vitesse, Tim and Helen in Volvo, Roy in KA and Mary and Dave in Golf GT Sport.
We all congratulated Mary and Dave on there 50th Wedding Anniversary with a signed card and flowers, see photo.
On the 25th May at lunchtime we enjoyed the Cottage Inn, Bucklebury. The sun was shining which brought out the cars and bikes, Ollie and Becki were there with family, not sure if Ollie brought along one of his motorbikes. Ian in TR6, Nigel in Orange Fiat, Dave and Mary in TR7, Steve in Vitesse, Josie and Malc in TR7. See photo of Nigel with Fiat with Dave, Steve and Ian bonnet up on the TR6.
