Cumbria July News

Once again the good weather has deserted us. This time last year we were bathed in sunshine and very warm temperatures. Fortunately the rain stayed away for the Vintage and Metal show near Kendal, Sunday 19th May. Despite some of our cars going around in circles getting there, eight arrived for a very enjoyable day. The site is stress free and we were made very welcome and allowed to park up where we wanted. On arrival most headed for the car boot sale next door to the show field. This is the second year that we have gone to the show and it is proving very popular.  Tony and Helen’s Spitfire made its first outing after its total and extensive rebuild. Still no sign of Roger’s Acclaim, the chap doing the body repair has hurt his back and does not know when he will be able to finish the car. The day had some eventful partial and fatal breakdowns. My spitfire started leaking coolant from the water pump, seal leaking. This is what happens when the car has stood for a long time. On our way home Ray, who was driving his GT6, travelled with me in case my car lost any more coolant. We got as far as Ulverston when Ray pulled into the side of the road and flagged me down. The car had no drive, clutch broken plate? Fortunately we could park on the pavement and it was not long before the recovery vehicle arrived.
Forth coming events: Distington Sunday 7th July. Tony has booked our stand and we can just turn up. He will put up the old green tent the day before so it will be easy for the early arrivals to spot where we are. We will have the usual BBQ; the fire is provided but please bring your own meat.
Gosforth Sunday 21st July.  I have booked the club into this show and you can just turn up, there is no need for a pass. The show is not at the same venue as last year, it is on the old Gosforth show ground which is 100 yds further south than last year’s field. Start time 10am.  For those of you old enough to remember, the day is also 50 years since the first man landed on the moon. It is an easy day for me to remember as it is the day I got the key of the door.
Ripon Sunday 28th July. Usual stand booked for ten cars and I have the passes. If you intend going please let me know and I will email a pass to you. I only have ten so it is first come basis.
If you need a car valuation, just bring your car along to one of the shows and I will do it for you.
Safe motoring
Roy
