Lydden Hill - June 4th 2 Months, 4 Weeks ago Karma: 1
After many hours working on the car, finally managed to get it ready to go to the Rochester Motor Club (RMC) Sprint at Lydden Hill last weekend. The first motorsport event I've entered. Managed second in class (er um, out of 2!). Nasty misfire after one lap, which I think is down to the fuel tank being the original and not full enough. Now to fit a small race tank and see if I can sure the problem.

Vert friendly and helpful bunch at RMC, made it less formidable than it might have been.

Off to Castle Combe for the 26th June event. Just got to cure the fuelling problem and rebuild the rear axle.

Highly recommended intro to motorsport I have to say.

Well done Dale, it is fun, and whilst I mean the racers no disrespect, I reckon there is a lot more camaraderie in the pits too.
Car look good too. Keep us posted on how you go.

Hillclimbs often smaller events too, and though someone is always out on the hill, the rest of the tribe stays in the paddock/pits, so tlak etc. continue. So, yes, very friendly!

Off to Barbon tomorrow. I'm officiating, but they say I can have an, ahem, 'untimed' run up at some stage, as I'll have my own 'Fast Intervention Vehicle' to hand.

Re:Castle Combe 26th June - Car Number 69.. 2 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 1
Is someone trying to tell me something? I've been given race number 69 for the Castle Combe sprint on the 26th June. It strikes me that the number is the same both ways up. Hmmm.... must check roll-cage mountings are tight.

Actually, as of tonight, the differential is in a hundred bits on the bench waiting for a shim to turn up and the plumbed-in extinguisher has just arrived, so a bit to do yet...

Castle Combe - 26th - Race number?? 2 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 1
Ooo err missus.

You see, there I was, somewhat concerned at the reputation that Castle Combe has for being a high speed track, with plenty of opportunity for excursions into the shubbery. Especially driving a not quite such high speed Spitfire.

Now, Calvin, I have a whole host of other reasons to be somewhat nervous!!

Dale, just watch yourself at the rise and left hand jink just before the right hand Quarry Corner, car goes very light over brow just as you enter the braking area for Quarry. Very easy to lock up.
Got very squeeky bottomed in my old TR4 years ago. Best of luck, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Must admit that I'm quite envious, Combe used to be my local track when I as young and stupid. ( yeah I know now older and still stupid)
