Should i buy a tr6 1 Year, 4 Months ago Karma: 0
I have a Spit Mk iv that I have been restoring and now
have been on the road for a while, but I have always fancied a Tr.Now a mate is selling his TR6 at a what I think is a fair price,he bought it about two years ago but has not used it very much,it had been restored some time before he got it,new wings front and back, new hood, good oil presure,
Colour BRG,all looks clean,I think it is 1973 "L" but not tax exempt.I have not driven it yet,If it need work on I will atempt to do most myself but not paint,
Any advise please

Yes, yes, YES!

Seriously though, a TR6 (either early CP series 150bhp or later CR series 125bhp) are brilliant cars.

Compared to the Spitfire you will notice a huge improvement in acceleration, especially at low revs, and high speed cruising ability. A good TR6 has real grunt, best way I know to describe it, and can cruise comfortably all day at over the 70mph limit (but I can't recommend this practice for obvious reasons).

The driving experience is also more relaxed than smaller Triumphs, it's easier to cover long distances without fatigue.

What about the downsides... Well of course there are some. TR bodywork is more susceptible to rust than some Triumphs, with several built in rust-traps. Same goes for the chassis to a lesser extent. And it will be thirstier than a Spitfire.

Good TR6's are becoming hard to find at sensible prices. If you have the opportunity to get a good car at the right price, I would snap it up.

Nigel

PS: I love my TR6 and may be a little biased!

I acquired mine in 2005. I have spent some money overhauling the petrol injection system which had given reliable service to the previous owner. See my thoughts under "ignition timing" on the message board re the fuel system. Nothing much else to worry about.
Even when it has been "off colour" it has always got me home. Never have been towed or rescued. Engine and gearbox pretty bulletproof. Lovely to drive . Don't spend money on the radio - you won't hear it over 50MPH.

Buy the TR6,

Over the last 20 yrs I have had nice toys
Lotus Cortinas, Escort Mexico's/RS'S, BMW E30 M3 (loved this car) Porsche 3.2 Carrera for last 8yrs and lots of cash spent on it (no regrets apart from selling)
I bought my TR6 about 2 months ago clutch pedal on floor and running rough renewed all master cyl pipe and adjustable slave = happy days as for the running almost there then it will be suspension next, point is
there are camera's everywhere now and In the TR6 its not
break neck fast but has grunt and noise people like it,
It has ton's offeel good factor driving it which is what puts a smile on my face when I drive it,
Plus you can work on it without a laptop.

you will have fun buy it

Paul
