Missing chassis number/vin plate

I have just agreed to buy a 1969 Vitesse (paid a small deposit) but it has no VIN Plate / Chassis number. The car has loads of history and was resprayed a few years back, so I'm not too worried.

How difficult is it to get hold of a new VIN Plate? Has anyone had any experience of this?

    Although nice to have, a VIN plate is not required for the MoT unless the car was first used after 1st August 1980.
    However, (hope I'm not teaching you to suck eggs here) I'd check very carefully that the car you are buying is the car described in the log book. e.g. if the car is a convertible, does the chassis number on the log book end in CV?
