hi
i have just joined the club as i have just bought a 1968 mk2 vitesse one owner car with 50,000 miles on the clock. its been in a air tight garage since
1982.it has been transported to my garage via a recovery truck. i have got it mobile by taking out the brake pads and shoes and fitting new tyres i would
be gratefull if anyone out there can give me some advice on what practices / procedures i need to follow to get the engine running ie change, oil electrical
point/plugs drain fuel tank etc, bearing in mind the elderly gent just drove it in the garage disconected the battery and left it there for 25 years, any
advice would be welcome .
many thanks

Hi Gary
Would love to see some pics of the car, also get it on the IVR scheme by contacting club archivist Dick Plumridge. Sounds like Dick might not know this
car.
I am sure you will get some good advise from move experienced members than me but I can offer the below and not in any particular order:-
- If the car has been sitting for 25 years you will need to ensure the engine and clutch are not seized. Does it tun by hand?
- I would replace all brake (maybe change resevoir seals) and clutch fluids checking pipes and rear cylinders/front calipers to ensure they are not
seized/leaking and all seals are intact.
- Replace engine oil
- replace radiator fluid
- replace points, condensor and rotor arm
- check leads for damage
- Check electrics - lights, horn, indicators, reverse light, wipers
- - Remove any fuel if it's been in the tank for 25 years. Do not remove the nut at the bottom of the tank to drain or you will ruin the tank. I would
recommend flushing the tank out to ensure any sludge/gunge is removed. Tank may have to be removed (but preferably not!!)
- Oil trunnions - this is a must if you are moving the car around by hand at low speed!
- Replace oil and temperature sender units
- Replace spark plugs - might want to put a little bit of oil down the bores when turning the engine over by hand
- Check core plugs for corrosion
- check all hoses for wear
- check all brake hoses for wear, recomend replacing as a matter of course.
Need to get back to work so that will do for now. Someone may have a prepared list of things to check and replace etc.
Hope this helps. Others welcome to add or offer better advice.
Thanks
David
