All,
The Silverback has a GRP bonnet, and it has never fitted well.
But after a few years and some visits to the tyre wall, the bonnet now looks like a drunkards hat, not on straight and probably someone else's.
I need to revise it, and I've come to the conclusion that I didn't attach the bonnet frame properly. The front lower edge has never come down towards the
front valance as far as it should. No amount of fiddling with the struts that support the bonnet pivot has been able to correct this deficit. I suspect
that the bracket in the middle of the frame is is too far forward. At present the rear bolt is exactly 250mm from the rear edge of the bonnet. What is the
same measurement on your highly original original, metal bonnet, please?
If that is about 25mm less than the distance I used then my theory is proved.
If it isn't then I must think again - any ideas?
Thanks!
John

As an aside, I fitted a grp to a mooded spit years ago. Caefully measured lots of reference points to get the frame in the right place. Unfortuanately
I didn't measure the overall length of the bonnet, it was about 1"shorter than the metal one! I b*****d about for ages before measuring it fully!. I
ended up undoing the frame, setting it up on the car and having to use very thich packing pieces to get it to fit any sense. Then had to chop the
valance to line up with the bonnet (narrower as well at the front!)
Will measure the distances when I am up and about a bit later!
Another point though. It is not uncommeon even with metal bonnets to have that sort of alignment problem. I heard of a concours car years ago where
they ended up cutting the chassis at the front, getting the bonnet right then rewelding! Now theres a plan!
