Doh,
my lovley alloy rocker cover fouls the bonnet on my Mk2 - I note that the supplied gasket is much thicker than the part that came off - I am considering
refiting without the cork gasket and just using gasket seal - or do I take an angle ginder to the fins on this new cover?

The angle grinder option is common. I have an alloy cover on the Sixfire and that doesn't fould the bonnet, unless you let the bonnet fall from fully
open, then you get a nice "tit" on the bonnet and an empty feeling in the wallet. All fixed now

Sounds like it's a generic Triumph 6-cyl rocker cover rather than one specifically designed for the Vitesse. If you take a grinder to it, be sure to
use a new grinding disc that has never been used on steel. I wrote about thermite explosions in my register report in Courier number 300 (P.61), very,
very dangerous.
Cheers,
Bill.

I read that article bill hard to belive that could happen but through lack of knowledge accidents can and do happen. Labeling and marking of discs
is advisable .

OK - angle grinder option didn't work as once I had reduced the fins to zero on the top edge of the cover the top of the cover
itself touches the bonnett !
So next option is to ditch the 0.5cm cork gasket supplied - what shall I do for a seal - just gasket seal (blue) or is there somthing else to
consider?

Also the alloy ones have no groove for the seal as a rule, making them completely useless in my opinion, also they are heavier than
steel one!

The gasket problem is easy solved, stick it to the rocker cover with some blue hylomar stuff - works great. The alloy covers look
nicer in my opinion but serve no practical purpose over a steel one apart from masking tappet noise a bit - you decide if that's a
good thing though!
If the original poster is having this amount of trouble fitting it then I'd be looking at whether the engine is sitting too high on
the mounts - I know the space under a GT6 bonnet is tight (been there, done that, paid for the painting of it twice) but they
should fit and indeed do fit on many cars.

Might be a case of the car having the wrong suspension towers. The engine mount forms a box section, which sits just above the
opening for the steering column on the suspension towers of the Herald, Vitesse and GT6. On the Spitfire, the box section sits
lower so the bottom edge cuts across the steering column opening.
I would have expected even a standard rocker cover to have made contact with the bonnet if this was the case,

Bill.
