This is an easy problem for you chaps i'm sure. New clutch fitted, with no problems except when i try to engage reverse. You know the noise...crunch!!! or
i have to turn off the engine, into reverse then start up again. Can i adjust the clutch in anyway?? Cheers Chris

Not necessarily easy I'm afraid. Unlike the Herald/Spitfire, there is no adjustment possible on the clutch hydraulics. You can only check that the
seals are in good nick on both master and slave cylinders, and that the system is properly bled of any air.
Unfortunately, it is also possible that the clutch is dragging because of defective components, or rather mismatched components. There has been a lot
of trouble with 6 cylinder clutches, some makes being much better than others.
Also worth checking that you do not have a problem with the crankshaft thrust washers. Grab the front pulley (where the fan is) and make sure you
cannot move the crank forward or backwards more than a "gnat's whisker." (4 to 8 thous is the specified tolerance).

had some clutch clearing problems on my 1600 which has the coil clutch cover, pedal always a bit flat/dead but not spongy.
and with crash on 1st/rev engagement was always a bit gnashing of teeth to stop rotation......
after fitting new cylinders ,repair worn clevis holes, replace withdrawl lever, correct disc thickness etc. without any great improvement.
solution after much headscratching was to get full travel on the pedal we drilled new location holes in the mounting bracket
to effectively raise the pedal height by moving the assy forwards a few mm. always make sure you dont eliminate the small amount of pedal free play
or you will get build up and slip.... this made a world of difference and having replaced all the expensive options this made more impact on the
feel and operation .. back to basics.....Peter
