URGENT HELP, please!
I thought I'd kept the overdrive still but I can't get the gearbox to mate with the overdrive. I need the last inch or so, about the length of the
screws.
How does one get the two lined up?

I had this problem.
Get a very long thin screwdriver and run it down either side of the splines inside the OD.
You will find they are very (and I mean very) slightly misaligned. The screwdriver will click as it goes over the incorrect bit.
You can re-align the upper half of the splines carefully by rotating it.
Last one went straight on having learnt my lesson the first time!

I have the same problem on my O/D Colin except the splines are completely missaligned.
I have tried a screwdriver to move them but no joy. I also tried putting the drive on the shaft as far as it will go and locking the gearbox in
gear to turn the splines, it seems
locked together.

Thank you Colin, but I seem to be in the same boat as John now. Obviously I've turned it the wrong way.
Is the next step to disassemble the overdrive?
And that oil seal on the bell housing. How does that go in?

the outer half of the splined bit does move quite freely, I managed to get mine a spline width out before I got it lined up again.
Very judicious levering at the upper half will line it up. It only goes 1 way I think.........
I think it is too deep for a finger, but I didn't try.

Hi Colin,
I'm not sure I understand the 'upper', 'inner' and 'outer' bits.
Can you explain with front and rear as I can see there are two rings down there, which, although I have got them to move the wrong way,
seem not to want to move either way now. One of the two must connected to the prop shaft flange and the other not but with sufficent
friction that they both move unless inhibited by the screwdriver.
Of course, if they can only move one way, then I'm obviously moving them the wrong way.
Thanks for your input.

Eureka, done it, Colin was quite right, the furthest spline from the hole moves easily, but only anti-clockwise (as you look down
on it). Now all there is to do is get the box back in while there is still some weekend left!!
Good luck Jason & thanks Colin

Thanks chaps!
Having spent a couple of hours swearing at it I tried turning the aftmost ring anti-clockwise. It took less than 2 minutes and
that includes going down and up the stairs to the cellar!
Unbelievably easy if you just know what you're doing!
Love, love, love. Fly, fly, fly!

Bu88er!!
I spent all morning sweating over getting g/box and o/d back together. As an afterthought, I tried here - followed the
above advice and 2 minutes later they were back together. Must make a point of trying here first, in future!
