Dear all,
Maybe I'm being a little neurotic now that my car is back together again and I am noticing things that I
wouldn't have bothered about before but there is a slight whirring noise when the clutch is engaged which
disappears when a light pressure is applied to the clutch pedal - presumably enough to bring the bearing into
contact with the clutch but not enough to disengage it. The release bearing is new as is the gearbox and driven
plate. The noise is most noticable when idling in neutral. The clutch and gearbox are behaving perfectly otherwise.
I didn't renew the release arm assembly or any other bits as there didn't seem to be any reason to.
Any suggestions?
Andy.

I have no idea what it is, but mine does the same. Car had recon engine about 1500 miles (and 7 years) ago, gearbox is noisy, and little whirr from the
clutch. Very slight pressure on pedal and it goes away. Previous herald (948 twin carb saloon - sadly long gone rusted to bits in 1974) had noisy
release bearing, this gave a squeal when moving off.
