Assuming what you have is a proper Mk1 gearbox, and a proper Mk2 engine, you will have no problems fitting the gearbox. It is the same gearbox for Mk1
and Mk2. Both gearbox and engine should have an HC prefix. A KC prefix should be fine too (GT6).
If you have a T 2000 saloon engine (not unknown) with M* prefix, you MIGHT have a variation in flywheel and input shaft, but if the gearbox is a
Vitesse (or GT6) one now, then someone has already sorted out any issues.
If you are swapping an overdrive box for a non-overdrive box, you will need extra bits! You need an o/d rear gearbox mount, the speedo cable
right-angle drive, the wiring for the inhibitor switch and the relay, the special operating relay, and the operating switch (should be a stalk on the
right side of the steering wheel for both Mk1 and Mk2).
All of these are relatively easy. You also need a shorter propshaft which may NOT be so easy to find. You have two choices; either buy a Vitesse o/d
propshaft, or get the original one shortened. You will probably also have to cut back the transmission tunnel as the o/d to propshaft flange will be
further back. This will then need a plate making up to cover over the gap, secured with self tappers. There was an original plate for this, but an
piece of steel plate will do a good job, and it does not need to be terribly accurately cut.

The engine is proper Mk2 Vitesse. I have all the bits you mentioned + column switch. I only havn't thought about the tunnel housing mod. Should be
ok. Thanks for your advise. Wish me luck on the job, I've never taken a gearbox out before.
