I have a strange problem with my 1968 Vitesse MkII which I have just purchased. All fine going forwards with no clutch slip etc. Overdrive works fine. Put
it into reverse to back it up a hill (so under load) it engages, but when lifting the clutch, nothing. There is no evidence of clutch slip, in fact it
sounds as if a wheel is spinning, but it isn't! Any suggestions most welcome.
Cheers

Richard,
No one has offered a solution yet, and neither can I, but tell us more. Does reverse work on the flat?

Yes - that's the strange thing. It is only when you put the car under load in reverse the problem arises. It seems like something in the back end
rather than the box, but if it was driveshaft or diff, I would expect problems going forwards as well, and she's fine going forwards. It really
does sound like a wheel spinning, but that's not happening either.
As you know from my other post (thanks for your replies incidentally!) I shall soon be stripping the car to restore, but had hoped gearbox and
transmission generally were ok. I'd like to sort this before I strip the old girl so that I know it all works when I put it back together!
I'm waiting for a couple of manuals I have bought on e-bay, and hopefully that will give me some inspiration!

You may have it squire & my sincere thanks! As per my last post, I shall wait until I receive the manuals before I start fiddling with
it, but this certainly fits the symptoms.
I'll let you know how it goes, but would never have considered the overdrive. I confess I still can't see why the overdrive would interfere
with reverse, but obviously it does, so will give it a go.
Thanks again

I have heard that problems with reverse is a sign that overdrive is on way out??

I heard that too... doesn't the OD private clutch get mullered if left engaged and reverse selected?
... Don't mind me I'm repeating things I've heard along the line
