Oil pressure worries, MK II Vitesse

Posted By : Andrew Williams, 15-Sep-2004, 09:29pm

I have a problem with my 1970 vitesse MK II convertible and I was hoping that someone with better knowledge that myself may be able to help me. I will try to explain my problem as well as I can and is as follows. On initial start up my cars oil light extinguishes as normal as soon as idle speed is reached, then after several miles of driving the oil light is illuminated when the car is idling at roundabouts etc. However when the car was ran for a few more miles the oil light is on at greater RPM and extinguishes when the engine is revved. When the car is left to stand for a couple of hours this cycle is repeated again. As you can imagine I have not ran the car again since this problem occurred, I have checked the oil and the level is fine and I have also removed the wire lead from the sender and this extinguishes the oil light. Also when removing the oil filler cap the top end of the engine seems quite dry. I would really appreciate any help that anyone could give me.

Regards,

Andrew Williams.
