All,
Halfords offer a 4 year guarantee on batteries.
Race cars treat their batteries abysmally. Apart from throwing them about, they are expected to make many engine starts, but only run twenty odd miles.
That's no way to use a battery.
Mine failed at Silverstone - I needed a push start for the last race - thanks guys!
It had only 11.5 volts and 'no charge' on my hydrometer.
So back to Halfords with the receipt.
That receipt is three years and ten months old.
No questions; a quick check on their battery tester, and 'here's another one'!
AND another receipt, dated today.
That's not a fraud.
I can recommend Halfords, for batteries, and many other things.
For instance, if you are a regular shopper, ask if you can have a Trade Card.
Ten% savings on tools and materials.

Had the same thing. I like that in a company. In fact they are not too bad really, as long as you can find what you want. They do tend to employ lots
of cheap labour, but thats the same most shops these days.

You will find your replacement has a 2 month warranty on it, you get what is left of teh original period.
Bit of a downer, but you did get 2 for the price of 1.
Cheers

I got another 4 years with mine. They refunded the origianl and issued a new receipt, or something. It was brilliant!

John,
In law, you only have the remainder of the original waranty period - i.e. 2 months.
If however, Halfords have made a mistake - and it looks like they have, and not just with your battery, then it's up to your concience next
time the battery fails.

I find Halfords good for some things, pretty hopeless with others. I have always found their range of professional spanners very good and reasonably
priced (and it's not just the shiny chrome!). I would recommend them to others, and I believe they have a lifetime guarantee. However when I last
bought a set there a month ago, while I could get a set of AF spanners (which was what I wanted), I noticed you can no longer buy individual AF sockets
(may even have had no 1/2" drive AF socket sets) and I don't think you can get AF spanners individually. The same situation applied in another largeish
Halfords store a couple of weeks later, so I had to buy an 11mm socket instead of 7/16". Close enough for the job in hand, but probably a sign of the
times.
So if you want some, get them while you still can.

Ok, Kevin, Colin, if M'Lud says that then I've still had two batteries for the price of one.
Where's the hal-fraud in that?
And no, my branch doesn't sell Imperial sockets either.
Would you stock icecubes in Greenland?
Or fur-coats in Africa?

John,
Halfords obviously do a large trade in car batteries, and would appear to be good value for money if you know that you can kill a battery in
less than four years. They have obviously studied the "life" of a battery and pitched their guarantee period so that it will not generate too
many claims. The fact that they seem to have misunderstood the law is another matter that may have a commercial impact if the people that can
kill a battery in less than four years do it repeatedly.
Not having a race car, I'm a bit gentler on batteries, I can generally get about 6 years from a battery before it is dead beyond redemption. In
the "old days" I used to get even longer, but since the advent of "sealed for life" batteries I've been unable to give them a top up of EDTA to
prolong their life.

Might just be a stock issue as I picked up a set of Halfords deep drive AF sockets the other week for a mate (as I like my set lots).
They are bloody useless for specific triumph items (and half the stuff in their catalogue thingy that is supposedly for heralds is blatently the
wrong thing, normally involves taking things back 3 times till you get the right bit), but for tools and axle stands and that kind of gumph they
are pretty spot on.

Halfords spanners and socket sets are very good, almost as good (but not quite) as my Snap-On ones. Not so good however, are their screwdrivers
sets, rubbery handles and the blades are just too thick to fit the slots or crosses in the screwheads of my car. It was a waste of £20
for a set.
