I have a 2L Vitesse Mk2 with J type overdrive. The gearbox is very noisy and needs a rebuild. The O/D is fine.
Can any one suggest a supplier. I can just choose one at random from the members handbook but would prefer some genuine experience.

Bear in mind that there is a lot of "recycled" parts in these boxes - there are for instance no new gears out there really. You need someone with a
goods stock of old components and the right synchro rings and bearings to do the best job possible. I would not entrust a Vitesse box to just anyone,
plenty of people will say they'll do it and technically they aren't demanding so in theory anyone could do it. However there are some crap components
floating around, synchro rings that just don't work and substandard bearings that don't last. The overdrive's can be tricky and do need careful
attention. Personally I wouldn't go anywhere other than Mick at Canley Classics but be prepared for a wait, lots of the trade use him and he is very
bust these days. If you go elesewhere make sure you get a proper delivery date from them - you wouldn't want to take it to a splace coz they quote a
quicker delivery date only to find they've sent the thing to Canley's to wait in line - then charged you more than if you'd gone direct!
Where else are gearboxes reconditioned? And I mean actually orked on not just sold?
Go by personal reccomendation - I've just fitted a J type to the wife's Herald and it's transformed the car, the box is sweet.
