Adrian, just put a 12V bulb between the live feed and earth, the lamp should light up regardless of how full the tank is although its brighteness will
vary accordingly - I suspect that resistance is at its minimum when the tank is full therefore the fuller the tank the brighter the lamp will be. If
the lamp lights up then you know the sender is working fine and the fault nmust lie with the gauge. Also, don't forget to check the earth is grounded
okay, no point checking the live feed if it's the earth that's at fault.

Good advice, Steve, but Adrian was asking about the temp gauge, not the fuel gauge
The temp gauge sender has a resitance of around 1000 ohms when cold and about 50 ohms at boiling point. There are a couple of useful inks in this thread: http://www.tssc.org.uk/messageboard.asp?board=spit...

Many thanks for everyones help, now sorted - the bulb trick worked.
