Has anyone actually used one of these things? Do they work? Or should they be put firmly in the same box as the snake oil and ground rhino horn? Be
interested to know.

Dan,
This stuff is OK! Used it for my Herald fuel tank. Can recommend it.

Whose was it? Only one I have seen advertised is POR but there are probably others? Cheers!

Hi Dan
I bought the POR 15 one from Frost. Full kit around £50. Not cheap!! I have degreased but that's about it. Will let you know how I
get on over the weekend.
Cheers

OK be interested to know as that's what I've seen though I think perhaps Google may through up a cheaper source. Good luck!

Thanks Dan
Well, I degreased the tank, treated it with metal ready and on Monday night having removed the sender unit and filler hose (and sealed
up), I poured in the tank sealer (after stirring it for a few minutes to remove all the lumpy bits!).
I placed the petrol cap back on and started slowly turning the tank, top to bottom, left to right etc etc. Wear gloves when doing this.
I never and can't get the stuff off my fingers!
After several minutes or swirling the stuff around the tank I drained back into the tin. I was amazed how much wasn;t used. The tin
filled back up to around 4/5ths of the original contents.
Looking in the tank everything looks covered in a nice shiny silver coat. I need to leave the tank for 96 hours to completely dry
before putting fuel back in it but everyhting looks good.
Might be a better idea to use something other than the petrol cap to seal the filler hole as the sealant leaks out when the tank is
upside down.
I hope to refit the tank tonight and try some fuel on Sunday.
Cheers

Hi David,
Best of luck. Ironically mine is running better now- maybe used up a batch of lousy fuel- so I may not be lashing out after all.
But eventually I will probably have to so do tell!
Cheers, Dan

Hi Dan
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Well the sealer seems to have worked ok. I did put some chemical metal on the
outside of the tank where the hole just to be sure.
What I have noticed is that I am seeing silver flecks through the petrol from the sealer. The product states the tank will cure
in a maximum of 96 hours. I left the tank for around 110 hours before adding petrol. At the moment the running of the car is
not affected as long as I keep topping up the tank with new fuel. If the tank runs low the car becomes very sluggish.
I am hoping this will calm down once the residue is flushed from the system and I hope no damage is caused to the carbs
etc!!
Cheers
David

Thanks for that, do let us know how you get on in the long term with these silver flecks. If it does much of that no good
on my 1200 with the Solex carb, wouldn't get to the end of the street!

I am rather curious about the amount of surface rust which was in the tank prior to treatment and whether the pre-treatment was
sufficient to remove the rust or just cover/neutralize it, especially in the tank seams.
Removal of the rust would seem to be paramount as to whether the sealant provides a permanent or temporary fix.

That, of course, is where POR are safe as you can't check that out! Has anyone ever used the metal ready stuff on a panel to
find out if it works? I lumped most rust cures in with the snake oil/ground rhino horn/etc a long time ago, there's a couple
that I know work (up to a point) and I'm not inclined to waste cash trying anything new!

I did us the degreaser then the metal ready. I must say though that not much rust was removed with the metal ready.
There didn;t seem to be much corrosion in the tank before the treatment.
Car still running!!
Cheers
