Hi all
I bought my Vitesse a few years back and spend over a year stripping the car down. the car was kept in the garage overnight where I also had a brand new
stainless steel centre exhaust section which was propped up against the corner of the garage. I had no problems with corrosion during this time.
i now have the car back and bought a Ruby Dry dehumidifier. I am now finding that the steel parts on the car seem to be rusting where as before I had no
problems. Even the stainless steel exhaust and stainless windscreen wipers are starting to show signs of light surface rust. I have attached a picture of
the tailpipe with half of it polished and the other half as it looks now. It was only olished completely over two weeks ago.
Has anyone any ideas what could be causing this. nothing has changed in the garage except the dehumidifier and a brush bar along the bottom of the garage
door to reduce air into the garage.
Any advice would be recomended. I have just bought a temperature and humidity gauge. Early indications are that with the dehumidifier set to 50%, the
humidity in the garage (today) was 39% and the temperature is 21.5 degrees C. I have been using the dehumidifier between 40% and 50% setting.
I have been working on the car today with the garage door fully open and the gauge is reading humidity of 50%.
Any ideas?
Cheers
David

David
Is there much water in the Dehumidifier water tank each day?
The Ruby Dry came top in the Practical Classics test, so it should work OK.
I have the one that came 2nd in that test (can't remember the name of it right now)
And that works well. Garage is dry.
In this recent wet weather it sometimes collects a full tank within a couple of days.

Hi Wayne
Yes, I have to empty it every couple of days. The strange thing is that when I didn't have the dehumidifier the stanless steel exhaust middle
section had no discolouration but when I started using it everthing seems to start showing signs of rust.
Thanks

That's weird isn't it?
Maybe ambient conditions in your garage have changed dramatically - not likely though.
Why not try cleaning off the rust & then not using the dehumidifier for a week or two. If no rust appears that will tell you for certain
that it is the Ruby-Dry causing it and you could ask their technical support people for help. (Assumimg they have any)

Could it be that you have blocked the draughty doors? Have you tried the dehumidifier on it's driest possible setting?
Ian.

Hi Ian
I have tried it on 40, 50 and 60% settings. Currently it's working on 60% setting and the current humidity reading is 38% which I think is a bit
strange. The place I bought the unit from said the less air change in the garage the better so he didn't think the brush bar along the bottom of
the door is an issue.
He did suggest placing a piece of steel in the garage and monitor over a few days. Not sure what this is going to show as the wipers, exhaust etc
are all showing signs of discolouration.
I will clean the parts over the weekend and monitor from there.
Cheers
