2.5 PI - Fuel Consumption

Hi,

This is my first time on this message board, so hello to everyone !!

I'm 34 and have just fulfilled a 17year old dream to own a Mk II 2.5 PI. The car has excelled in every way possible except for the mpg. This is to be my everyday car but will only be used a few days a week.

I filled her up with LRP and have now only just done approx 30miles and already the fuel guage indicator has dropped to the 3/4 mark on the fuel gauge!!! At this rate I will only be getting approx 120miles from a full tank, I know these are juicy cars but thats just mad !!!

I'm presuming that if the tank holds 14 gallons then 3/4 of a tank showing on the gauge would be approx 3.5 gallons of fuel used and so on ..... or does it hold its reading on the fuel gauge at the same position for a longer period of time, if you know what I mean ?

I have owned many classics such as Mini Coopers, Lotus and a string of MGB's and Midgets. This is my first Triumph so is this normal MPG, help please anyone !!

  hi paul,is your car manual or auto? ive got auto&get about 25 mpg if i take it easy hope you enjoy yours as i do mine cheers john

    Sorry to take so long to reply, I completely forgot I left a message here ...... still getting used to belonging to the TSSC.
    
    My PI is a manual with O/D. I have added some injector cleaner to the fuel, maybe its just me but the fuel consumption seems to have got a bit better.
    
    I will monitor the average fuel consumption over the next few months and advise the message board of my findings as they may prove helpful to others.
    
    And I must say yes, I am really enjoying owning my PI.

  I have a few PI's, the last one I was using regularly was my MK1 saloon. A well set up PI is by far the most economical big saloon version when being used on motorways fast A roads, expect over 30mpg. Around town is another matter! Never saw the point in 2000's, slower, less torque, and use's more petrol! I have some 2000's as well, these get used round town, whilst if we go further afield its a 2.5.
