Would anyone in the know please check my recent posting in the GT6 gearbox / general section and tell me if the GT6 block and crank is different from the
Triumph 2000 MK1 item? My gearbox shaft has been modified to fit my GT6 engine which is originally from a 2000 saloon; in order to get a replacement
gearbox to fit into the flywheel/ pilot bush far enough to get the box and block to mate I had to trim 3/4 inch off the end of the input shaft. (tried
without trimming it and banjaxed the thrust washers on starting up the engine...) I've checked the input shaft against all my other spare gearboxes and
they're all identical so the fault must lie either in the flywheel, pilot bush or the crankshaft itself, although a replacement pilot bush was the same as
that fitted already. I know the GT6 Mk2 crank has a recess in the end behind the flywheel; is this missing in the MK1? (Can't check mine, it's still in the
car in the bodyshop...) Check the photo in the GT6 gearbox section and please advise.... anybody?

Colin,
I'm no walking encylopedia of Triumph lore, so I can't answer your question directly, except that I know that differences exist. All I can say is to
always fit the flywheel that came with the gearbox, not the engine. They are all the same diameter/ring gear, and extra/different crankshaft bolts are
an easy mod. Not always possible - buying a split engine or g/box - but doable if possible

I believe that there are two different types of crank shaft - one has a shorter rear flange (where the flywheel bolts onto) than the other. There
are therefore two different types of flywheel to fit accordingly in order to ensure that the whole lot lines up correctly. This could perhaps
account for your problems in fitting the gearbox to the engine.
