Can anyone tell me if a rear diff (complete axel) will fit a triumph 2000 mk2 auto 74 model without modification.

Physically the diff should fit, but there may be ratio issues. Is the Stag diff you are intending a 3.45:1? ISTR the 2000 autos used the 3.7:1 diff.

Having now looked up my Robson and Langworth book, it suggests that all Stags had the 3.7:1 diff (at least originally) which is the same ratio as 2000
saloon automatics, so it should be a straight swap.

I always thought that 2000 automatics, and Stag automatics for that matter, were rather low geared.

The 2000 automatic was no worse than most 2000 manuals. Without overdrive all but the last ones had a pitiful 17mph/1000rpm in top. Great for
acceleration out of corners without changing down, but not so good for noise, fuel economy or engine wear on the motorway.
