Hello Gentlemen! Hoping one of you might be able to help!
I have a stag mark 2 1977 manual (picture on my profile) its one cool car BUT!!! if you come off the throttle too fast you hear something under the foot
well/transmission tunnel make a strange tapping noise, and for the life of me i cant figure out what it is! It sounds a bit like a mounting but there is
nothing underneath that is loose so im not too sure! it doesnt happen when you lift the clutch only when you lift the throttle. Does anyone have any idea
what it could be?
Thanks for your time!

Best guess would be the exhaust tapping the bodywork, on acceleration engine forcing itself one way, then on rapid deceleration with clutch engaged
it's being forced the other way hard.......

The other possibility is that the rear gearbox mounting is on the way ou. It is an odd bonded rubber/steel plate affir and can appear OK even if
it's coming apart. Get a bar between the back of the box and the crossmember and heave. If it moves, there's your answer. The mountings are very
easy to replace 10 mins or so but very oily!! Well at least mine was when i did it. The only problem is that the mountings available are very
poorly machined. I had to drill out the O/D side of it as the bolt holes wree at least 1/2 inch off centre!
