Searching around, I get the impression this is a common problem, but I have yet to find the answer...
When warm and idling, I get both the oil warning light and brake warning light flickering exactly in sync with each other. The brake light is bright - the
oil light can only be seen at night. They flicker together exactly.
When the engine is cold, this doesn't happen. Driving at 50/60 will cause them to light up brighter when you next stop and allow the engine to idle. I have
an auto - putting the car in neutral sometimes causes the lights to go out/flicker more rather then solid on.
Slightest increase in revs and both lights go out.
Oil has been changed and is at correct level. Don't have an oil pressure gauge to otherwise check pressure, but surely a low oil pressure problem would
cause the oil light only to come on - not the brake light. Considered electrical problem (i.e. bad earth), but then why does applying slight revs
extinguish both lights?
Has anyone else experienced this issue - or better still, does anyone have a solution...?
My thanks in advance.

The implication of what you have sais is that you have low oil pressure. This is usually the first sign of a worn out bottom end.
The 'clever' designers at Triumph made use of the power feed to the oil light to also feed the brake warning light, so they flicker in turn.
Get hold of an oil pressure gauge and get it checked, could just be a faulty sender.
When cold the oil is thicker and the light won't come on.
Stag engines are harder to hear knocking ends in.
Cheers

My worst fears...!
The knocking noise - when would this be heard - under acceleration or coasting?
Thanks

I have this oil light problem with my 2.0 cavalier which i have regretfully screwed the n*ts off it!
I get a bottom end grumble stamping the accelerator on the 3000rpm mark..... you will know when you hear it if its knocking.

I had this problem on a Galaxy, the brake light would glow upslightly and down. Turned out to be a wonky bit of plastic under the bonnet
dripping water onto the top of the brake filler/warning-switch.
check your brake master cylinder for water dripping onto it, won't fix the big ends though, but may stop the brake warning glowing.

I know nothng about Stags but this could easily be an electrical problem, either poor connections (damp or dirty) or a poor earth. I'd
start by spraying DWD40 over exposed connections, particularly around any fuse box or regulator box. If any connection look
particularly grubby then I'd pull them apart and clean them up with a little emery paper or similar. I'd also try an oil pressure gauge
for peace of mind.

It was genuinely low oil pressure...
The crankshaft had been reground, but was slightly oversize. Also it hadn't been hardened.
No real surprise that I had a 'little wear' occurring.
New crankshaft fitted by Faversham Classics - highly recommended company if anyone in the South-East is requiring work/advise for
their Stag.
