Is my Voltage Stabiliser faulty?

A strange occurrance with the Fuel and Temp gauges on my Stag over the last two days - whilst driving both move from normal readings (I hope!) and move
towards cold/empty - switching off the ignition and restarting seems the reset the gauges for a while, then they go back to zero again.
On researching the problem on the Spitfire thread, it suggests that the problem may be with the voltage stabiliser - am I correct in this basic assumption?
- The fuel tank is Full - I filled it today (£1.04 per litre of Super unleaded!!) and the coolant levels are fine.

If you suspect your voltage stabiliser of being faulty, I suggest you change it asap, because I had one go out on me in my Herald one time, driving at
70 mph on the M6, and it caused a major fire in the wiring loom!
Not pleasant.
Best Regards
