Anything and everything Stag.

Hi! I pulled up at a garage in my automatic Stag and went to put it into 'park'. The gear lever leapt forward when I pushed it and smashed off the plastic surround around the gear lever!
The car will now not start or even turn over and the gear lever is now what I can only describe as 'floppy'. Usual non-starting avenues explored to no avail.
Anyone any ideas what has happened here exactly?
