Just bought a 73 Stag. The Oil Presure in the engine appears to read half way across the gauge when the engine is cold, however when the engine heats up
the pressure drops to below the quarter mark when driving at speeds well within the speed limit - honest officer!
Anyone tell me the spec for the oil pressure and any suggestions for where the problem may lie.

Hi Alan,
They usually seem to run at around 30-40 PSI oil pressure when warm. From your description it is falling when warm - If the water temp is also getting
hot, I would check out the cooling system to ensure that is working ok. As the hotter the engine the thinner the oil will get, hence a lower
pressure.
If the water temp is fine I would try changing the oil incase it has been filled with 15w/40 instead of the correct 20w/50 oil.
It would also be worth checking to oil that comes out for any metal particles.
If you have / can obtain a gauge with the pressure marked on it it may even show 30 - 40PSI when warm.
Hope that helps,
Richard
