Hi all, need to pick your brains again!
my spifire was running lovely, never misfired or idled erratically, ive left it parked up and know it refuses to start.I had it running briefly and then it
just cut out and now it wont start at all, it spins but just wont fire up. fuel and plugs ok. the only thing i have done different is put rad weld into the
radiator. Any help gratefully received as usual. thanks Gary
ps it was only parked up for 3 days.
Stupid question i know, but should the floats in the carb chamber fill with fuel or float empty on the surface?

The floats should err.......float. If there is any fuel IN them then they cannot stop fuel entering the floatchamber when the level has risen to the
correct level, and the carb will (initially) produce an excessively rich mixture and then flood and leak fuel out of the top.
It's worth checking you've got a decent spark at the plugs (fat and blue) and that fuel is reaching the plugs. It might be worth trying to start the
engine in the dark (seriously, pitch black, and damp weather for preference!) and see if the HT side of the ignition system is sparking or tracking
somewhere.
If the car has been stood for sometime, (months) and with a nearly empty tank, sometimes the fuel can deteriorate to the extent that starting is
difficult.
