Not much joy looking for a Spit, pre-70s

Hi everybody,

I'm a new face here, although I was a member many moons ago (mid-80s) when I owned a Mk3. She was a bit of a wreck but I fell in love, and now that my situation is a little more fluid I'd like to get my hands on another car, preferably a much smarter one. Trouble is, I only like the early models, and browsing all the classifieds and dealers sites leads me to the conclusion that if they are not quite as rare as rocking horse poo, then it's something pretty close to that. Especially when you want them to original spec.!

Are they really as rare as that, or is there a bit of a dearth at the moment?
