Hi
I'm getting a problem which is causing me a lot of confusion.
Whilst driving I'm getting a screeching/grinding noise e.g. when accelerating semi-briskly - eases off when under less load.
Sounds like metal rubbing against metal.
I've checked the exhaust from front to back and have good clearance. Seems a little worse when turning corners (left or right).....
Starting to suspect it could be the diff and next step is to check if its got oil in it ....
Anyone got any other theories? all gratefully received.
Thanks
Doug.

Before going any further check the fan belt/tension . This if glazed can slip in the pulleys and screech.

Or a stone between brake disc a stone guard.
(Cure - permanent - remove stone guard. Temp - drive backwards as fast as you can!)

i had the same problem . jack the car up put axle stands under car turn prop shaft and look in the middle where the hand brake comes though the
floor to see if its mark or polished. there is a double meaatle skin there mine had broke a spot weld and the plate was touching the shaft.

Thanks Frank - noise seems to have gone for now but I'll take a look in that area in case that was the cause (and in case it comes
back).

All
Thanks for your many suggestions.
The culprit has turned out to be worn bearings on the Propshaft to Diff Universal joint. It had rather a lot of play on it - to put it mildly.
The shaft is now on the bench in my garage with the UJ removed (is that not just the most fun job in the world) so when the new one arrives in the post
I should be back on the road.
Thankfully putting the new one on should be easier than getting the old one off.
Cheers,
Doug.
