General Spitfire messages

I have a late Spitfire 1500 with the vin nuber ending in 009860
Given that the famed last Spitfire in the british motor heritage collection is 009898, does this mean that mine is 38 cars from the end of manufacture or did they just stick any old vin plate on them?
I also have another one with the number 009413 which, according to its heritage certificate, was built on 1st August 1980. So did they produce 485 cars in the last 5 days of production?
Any one understand how all this worked?
