hi i need some help. my car keeps cutting out you will be driving along everything normal then the rev counter will jump about reading all over the place
and then the car dies. you turn the key and it starts again straight away its got new plugs,points and condenser in. help please also put a new freeflow
exhaust on it and now the engine is a lot more rattley and blowing alot of blue smoke out the back when accerating i feel like setting fire to it please

Andrew,
Can you tell us which Spitfire you have? The 1500's used an electronic tacho - all before used a mechanicle one.
Fitting another exhaust shouldn't affect the engine by burning more oil... strange, maybe it already did that? The rattly and blue smoke could be due
to low oil - so check that anyway. The Tappets generally start getting noisey when the oil is low.
I would hazard a guess that (if this is a 1500) then the coil is the problem - unfortuantely the only way of finding out for us amateurs is to fit
another one and hope the problem dissapears.

I've had the wires to the points inside the distributor come adrift and cause the "no tacho, engine wants to stop" symptoms. On a 1500 again with
the electronic tacho.
