Carpets - advice

With the weather we've had i remembered poorold Spitty at the back of the garage. She needs a bit of TLC and i thought a good place i could start would be the carpets. So, what should i go for? Moulded or not? Any recommendations? What are the do's and don'ts of replacing a spitfire 1500 carpet set?

Any comments gratefully received.

Hi,

From my humble point of view gained from 1 year driving a Spit in all weathers every day, all I can say is don't use any underlining!! got wet in october and has never dried properly since, meaning that I have to rip it all out and get new carpets for the summer ( none molded cheap ones...)

However, if you are a 'fair weather' driver molded carpets and underlinning keeps the noise down and is supposed to be better...

  Carrying on this point. Classic Car Supplies are doing a good deal. ( Well it looks good, i might be wrong) For a full trim set at 375 quid. (Carpets, panels, Door caps) Does anyone know how much time it takes to replace the insides of a spit?

    From what I understand, moulded carpets give a far better finish & are easier to fit but are more pricey. I don't think you need underlining for those either.

      I had some New Old Stock tan carpet pieces for Heralds - the quality, fit and finish of those compared to the sewn set in the wife's Herald put them in a different league. The modern moulded carpets from Newtons are in that same league. They have the "underlay" pieces moulded into them. Compared with a "budget" set I would buy the moulded stuff everytime. It's different "mouldable" carpet. You can't just mould any old Allied Carpets shag pile, it's gotta be the right stuff
      Having said that, some nice leather bound Wilton carpets would look the dogs wotsits in a Heralds methinks.
      It's a Newton's moulded original spec set for me - this year's next project I think.
