You don't say what flavour of Spitfire you have, but for the pre-1500 Spitfires you should have one wire that runs up the steering column and attaches
to the bottom of a copper(?) ring, visable when you remove the steering wheel it's self. Nothing in this part of the loom shoud be moving - regardless
of how much the wheel turns, so chaffing shouldn't be a problem.
In the centre of the wheel you should have the horn button. This has a contact that presses against the metal of the wheel hub (and from there to
earth). On the bottom of the horn button is another metal contact.
Inside/under this you should have the central hole for the steering column splines. Around this is a ring of metal with a hole through it in one place
- about 1cm diameter.
There is a special 'thing' that pushes through this hole, and makes a contact between the +ve copper ring and the non-earthed contact on the bottom of
the horn button. This is basically a length of clear, rigid plastic tube, with a two metal contacts - one at each end. Between them is a length of
wire, in side a spring.
Any help?
