HELP!
Anything and everything Spitfire.
Section : Oil and Filters

I have topped up the diff in my mk2 spit with EP90 that I bought from Halfords. It leaks out quite happily so I thought no point in buying super expensive
stuff as it doesn't stay in long enough to justify it!
I was worried I might have filled it with a modern oil that attacks the phospherous bronze present in our older cars' diffs and gearboxes.
The bottle is shown in the picture. It is EP 80W-90 Hypoid Light. The label reads...
"An extreme pressure, multigrade gear oil. Suitable for use in all manual gearboxes when manufacturer recommends the use of a SAE 80W-90 viscosity grade
and API GL-4 performance classification"
"Halfords Gear Oil EP 80W-90 Hypoid Light meets the performance requirements of: API GL-4"
The label is quite reassuring and I'm beginning to think I got it right and havent put in a modern-type damaging oil. It was recommended for Spitfires on
the Halfords computer system too. Would just like some reassurance that I don't need to panic and drain the diff. If I need to, I can imagine it would be
bloody difficult - any suggestions?!
Happy New Year to all and please someone reassure me or at least tell me the truth!
