Hello All
I previously posted a comment about my heater stating that I could not get the heat to turn off on me 1975 Spitfire 1500. After some helpful comments I
presumed that it was my heater valve that was stuck open. I have had my garage check this valve and they confirm that it is working correctly. They tell me
that the heat I am feeling is the normal for spitfires and it is just coming off the exhaust and engine, but I'm not so sure as it seems to be coming out
of my heater vents.
How much heat from the engine bay and exhaust should I expect to be transfered into the cabin? Are excessive temperatures normal?
Thanks
Chris

Spifires (and GT6s especially) do tend to be quite cosy, particularly if the gearbox tunnel is not well sealed and insulated - but it shouldn't be
"hot". Does it get even hotter if you turn the heater on? If it does then it would appear that the heater valve is working and the main source of heat
is elsewhere (most likely a poor seal between the gearbox tunnel and the bulkhead/floor or poor/missing insulation under the tunnel). If it doesn't
then the valve would appear not to be closing off properly.

In my MKIII Spit the push cable isn't strong enough to close the heater valve fully.
Although it does move it back and forth, to actually turn it off I have to open the bonnet and manually snap it right round into the off
position.
I do this for "summer running"..
if you turn the fan on when you are experiencing this heat, (and you are stationary), can you feel lots of hot air coming out of the heater...
?
If so... its that valve not closing properly....
