Jonathan,
Ignore the premature revellers above!
A 'door bottom' is like you have taken an angle grinder to cut off the lower six inches or so of the door, and then peeled the door skin away.
You cut off the rust lace, affix the new metal (make sure that it's at the right height, or your 'new' door won't be) and weld in place. The
lower door skin explains itself, and you put it on after the above. 'Joddleing' ( Ze Yodelleing I mean not, mein Herr) the edges of the new
section will help to the new skin in fairly. Also, loosen the lower edges of the old skin above thecut where they grip the door edges, so that
you can slide the top edge of the new skin under the old. This will make it unlikely for rain to seep through, but you will need to nmake the
joint firm with spotwelds and fair with filler.
The shape of the door bottom is quite complex, so a fabrication could be quite expensive. Fitchetts may be cheaper than Rimmers, as they supply
panels for most other traders. They don't have a website, but advertise in the Courier. Tel: 01952-619585/620434. See also
