Is anyone doing an uprated bonnet cone?
The rubber ones just don't seem to last 5 minutes (OK, it's a couple of years but...) and I was wondering if anyone was sell Polybush ones for example.
I know Quiller list them but I've bought parts from them in the past and I really wouldn't want to have to make them go out of their way and, well, serve
me (it always seems such an inconvenience for them).

A company called Six Spares used to do the up-rated ones, I always remember Bill who ran the company having them on display at the show's he
attended.
They where a much harder compound, I don't know how long they lasted though.
I believe Rimmers bought all the stock when he finished trading last year, so it might be worth contacting them.

The 6 spares cones were black nylon and they are very good indeed.
If Rimmers don't have still have them, try TSSC Northern Ireland.
Someone up there was making them a while back

There a few left of the uprated ones unfortunately it looks like we won't be getting any more made, just the stock from Six Spares when we bought
the parts remain.

here's the secret to never having to renew your bonnet cones again.
get yourself some of the uprated ones made from nylon then purchase two 'mini rubber bobbins',you want the ones with a 1/4unf thread studs at
each end.
file two flats on each cone, one each side to enable them to be unscrewed.
hold the stud in a vice and unscrew the cones off.
now screw the cones onto one stud of each bobbin, screw the bobbins into the captive plate on the bonnet or body for heralds i think
et voila, they should last for ages,i did this on my car and they are as good as new apart from a small ring where the cone sits in the plate
after 15years of use.
you may have to fit washer(s) under the cones if the bonnet sits to low to the bulkhead and may require a little jiggling to get them central
in the plate but it's worth doing.
i found the nylon cones used just on the stud they come with to be too harsh for the bonnet and the bobbin allows some give when doing up the
catches and doesn't require such precise alignment of them.
there should be a piccy of mine here somewhere....

Now that is a good idea! I could be convinced to give that a go. If the nylon ones are NLA I guess I could make some up to screw onto the
mini bobbins.

just thought,
another product for the club to produce maybe as the bobbins are readily available and would only require a production run of cones to
make the product complete....fit and forget!

sorry all, you need the bobbins with 5/16unf thread not 1/4" as previous post
