Well I was going to patch up the rust on the lower panels of my bonnet assembly and see how long it lasted, until I went out this morning to find that
someone had driven through one of my wheelarches overnight. Time to buy a house with a driveway and cctv I think.
Anyway, to the point, the lower panels really aren't worth repairing now which leaves me considering my options for their replacement bearing in mind that
my budget is fairly low.
It seems that the most economical option is a fibreglass bonnet assembly to replace the existing one (anyone disagree?) so I'd be really grateful if anyone
could:
a) Reccommend / caution against specific manufacturers.
b) Suggest anywhere to have the thing sprayed once I've got it.
c) Disagree totally with me and tell me a much cheaper way to fix the problem.
d) Let me know whether fibreglass bonnets are a good/bad idea.
Many, many thanks in advance,
Adrian.

Adrian,
I guess this is all a matter of opinion but I'd assume a good second-hand bonnet would be cheaper if you have space/time to prepare it yourself. A lot
of places seem to offer a selection from GBP100-GBP200. This was the route I was going to go down to replace mine which could be likened to fibreglass
as it's made of filler!!
BTW, what sort of price is a fibreglass bonnet?

A quick phone around this morning gave me prices as follows:
Moss Europe: £257.33
Smith & Deakin: £237.50
Honeybourne Mouldings: £190
Don't know what sort of selection of the companies supplying them that represents though.
Adrian.

John,
whats the point of putting a go faster bonnet on when you've got an engine that barely goes at all?
I would assume that you're more worried about appearances than function, but then I've seen how you dress so I find that hard to believe.
Still chuckling about those shorts mate.

Fixed the engine last night (nnerr!)
P.S. nothing wrong with cutting the bottom of your jeans for the summer!

You two are sending messages to each other, via the TSSC, from opposite sides of the office aren't you...

Of course if you want to be 'that little bit different' you can get the Honeybourne Le-mans style bonnet for your spitfire with cowled in
headlights 'n all.
Mate of mine got one for about £200 from them a couple of years ago. NICE!

I think Honeybourne supplies nearly (if not) all the fibre-glass spitfire bonnets in the country...
