hi, I recently bought my first triumph, a spitfire 1500. I have decidied that the inertia reel seatbelts could do with replacing, and was contemplating
using harnesses instead. I was wondering if anyone knew whether there are any harnesses on the market which would fit my car, which still has the original
seats. Also whether any of these harnesses can be fitted to existing seat belt attachments, as I do not want to have to drill through the body to put extra
bolts or anything in.
Hope this can be answered!
Thanks, Chris

Hi Chris
Not sure where the rear mount is on a Spitfire but if it's near the top of the wheel arch like it is on a GT6 you can fit 3-point harnesses.
If your seat belt bolts are normal bolts rather than eye bolts you need to replace them with eye bolts. On my car the rear one was a normal bolt but
the floor ones were already eye bolts.
The bolts are quite hard to get out because the bit of thread outside the car corrodes and makes them hard to undo. So wire brush and WD the outside
ends of the bolts.
I replaced my static belts with harnesses about 10 years ago but later replaced the passenger one with an inertia reel, because it annoyed me when
passengers didn't bother adjusting it or buckling it up (if they were big passengers). You might find it is better to have one of each type of
belt.
