There are often questions on speaker fitting so I thought I would share my experience.
I recently bought for £40 on eBay (of course) an almost new Pioneer CD/MP3 player this, at 4x50 w is more powerful than my previous Panasonic
(now on eBay -of course) so new speakers were in order. I got some new Kenwood 6x9in ones (from eBay -of course). My front ones are 13cm Pionerers mounted
at 45 degrees on MDF in each glove box.
Fitting the Kenwoods was quite straighforward.
I mounted them to the back panel. It was not that simple as they are so heavy I had to reinforce the back of the panel with MDF. Then they were too deep
and fouled the tank so I cut mounts from chipboard the same shape as the speaker grille. Still too deep, so I cut another pair of mounts and doubled them
up. I bound the edges with black tape and they do not really notice that much.
Note that I mounted the speakers vertically cos they would be too wide horizontally! I had a thought just as I finished that the hood might foul them but
it was fine.
The sound though is quite something! Not quite in the Corsa boombox brigade but plenty good enough for me!
I hope this may be of help to someone . (or a few someones!)

Hi Martin, always a problem fitting speakers, I've been trying to figure out a way of mounting them without cutting into the rear panel (having just
spent the best part of £50 on a new one) and I am not sure if anyone has done this yet, but I am about to fit a roll bar and I was going
to weld a couple of brackets onto both sides to mount either a sheet of mdf or perspex which will take a set of speakers and possibly the main unit
(may opt for remote control). Just wondering if the hood will foul. I suppose the downside is that you lose storage space.
I'll post some pics as soon as I get it done.

Hi Jason,
Best of luck with that.
My feeling is that originality is good but modern convenience is better!
I will not be without "sounds" so to my mind, permanently fitted speakers do not damage.
Your idea seems a lot of work, but to me if the speakers do not have a soundbox (such as the boot) there will be little or no bass.
You do need a sizable enclosure for decent sound.

Thanks Martin, don't know enough about speakers, didn't realise that you needed to utilise the boot space, haven't fitted the roll bar yet, I
was going to weld on the brackets and spray the roll bar when I was painting the car, just been looking at units and speakers.

I know the title is rear speaker fitting - but have you thought about fitting them in the front? I find that the rear speakers are great
with the hood up but are covered up when the hood is down (guess it depends how you fold the hood, I tend not to roll it up, just leave it
hanging down and fit the hood cover over the top).
I have front speakers at both sides. One is fitted above the drivers glove box fitted horizontally facing down (held in place by the
speaker magnets) and the other is fitted high up on the pasenger footwell where it can't be seen - again held just by the magnets.
Sounds great and no modifications needed.

I have speakers in front also.
Pioneer 10cm ones. mounted on MDF board covered in black carpet material.
The boards are fitted a 45 degrees in each glove box and do not take up too much space. I can still get gloves in"
Fader set at R+2 is about right!

BTW the hood cover fittings hold up the folded hood so the speakers are not impeded (well they are really, 4 ohms - ha ha)
