Rust Sucks

Hi,
I have had my spitfire for about two years and in that time I have seen the cancer that is rust slowly eat away on the body panels of my car. So the question is what can I do about it. as far as i can see the chassis is in good condition (due to thirty years of a persistent oil leak). The rust is more of a cosmetic problem with some bubbling around the rear wings the bonnet at the front just above the bumber. So my question is what can be done about it?

    Have a look at the March issue of Practical Classics, a couple of articles and a product test. And take comfort in the fact that your car has lasted this long. My first Herald (1960 948) was so rusty after 11 years you could drive along and watch the wheels going round. From inside! talk about half a ton of iron oxide moving in formation.

      Fix the rust and fill every cavity with waxoyl type stuff, then place in large bin liner, sellotape the opening of the bag to a vacuum cleaner and suck out all the air, then seal bag.
      Return to the car whenever you want to drive it, but only on the 25th and 26th of august when i believe there is least chance of rain, then repeat process every year.
      This should keep car relatively rust free.
      Alternatively, revel in the fact that it will get us all rich and poor and should be considered in the same vein as death and taxes.

        Alternatively, move to Oregon on the West Coast of the USA, where it almost never snows, there is NO Salt of the roads, rusty cars are unknown, unless they are from out of state.
        
        There's NO MOT on cars, and emissions testing isn't done on cars over 21 years old.
        
        Of course, there are a lot of death traps on the roads, but Oregon only has 5 million drivers are roughly twice the area of the UK...
        
        No stinking rust though!
