Admittedly, not the safest thing in the world, but I've been driving it like this for over six months - I thought it was probably the seal for the
sender or the vent tube, as it was only quite a faint smell, but neither made any difference - groping around under the middle of the tank today, I
found a very small leak.
Only a quick bodge until I can get my hands on the necessaries to deal with it properly!
