Electronic Ignition - When or When not to fit?

Posted By : Debbie Lewis, 09-May-2006, 09:56pm

Hi, I'd appreciate some advice from all you Spitfire "Yoda's" please...

I was having some starting problems on my 1500 spit, needed to charge battery all the time, or jump start etc.... I was advised to get an electronic ignition to help with starting, so I purchased an aldon ignition from club shop.
While I was waiting for my part to arrive I also purchased a new battery, which has obviously helped with the starting, but once running the engine sounds great and runs really well.

My dilema is if I fit the aldon ignition do I have to alter the timing? I understand it is very easy to fit, but the Engine sounds so good at the moment I am reluctant to mess with the timing to fit the ignition.

Any advice much appreciated.

Thanks
