Hi there all, I trying to start my poor old Spit again and I seem to be getting a very poor spark from the coil, I checked this by disconnecting it from
distrubutor cap and holding it very near the block, all I got was a really faint spark!!, What's wrong people?
Any ideas or things I could try out?
Thanks

Leigh it could be worth trying the earth to the body of the coil strap from the bulkhead if not then give the terminals a clean inside and out to. also
worth checking your engine earth whilst your at it.

Leigh,
Were you sparking it by flashing a wire from the battery on the coil, or turning the engine so that the low volts part of the ignition circuit
worked as normal?
The condensor has part to play in spark production, and removing it by the first method can give a very feeble spark, or if you turn the engine
then a poor spark can mean the condensor has failed.

I was sparking it by pulling out the central lead from the distrubutor cap, then holding this lead near the block so I could get a spark when
my dad turned the engine over... what do you think then?

Leigh,
I have just had my recent very poor starting problems just identified as a problem with my coil, it is producing a very poor spark too.
Mine followed initial concerns over carbs but they seem to have just been hiding the coil problems.
I am going down the replacement coil route with a new coil from the club shop. I'll let you know if that ends the problems!
My starting problems are beginning to show on the starter motor, you may be best acting sooner to stop other problems developing too!
